Okonjo-Iweala received an A.B. degree in economics (1976) from Harvard University and a Master in City Planning degree(1978) and a Ph.D in regional economics and development (1981) from the Massachusetts institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr Okonjo-Iweala was the former Minister of Finance for Nigeria, served as a Managing Director of the World Bank. Dr Okonjo-Iweala has chaired the replenishment of over $40 billion for the International Development Association (IDA).


She is the recipient of numerous awards, including Honorary Doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin among others. She is the recipient of Time magazines European Hero of the year award 2004, named one of 100 most powerful women in the world by Forbes in 2006.
Dr Okonjo-Iweala is a member and chair of numerous boards and advisory group not limited to ONE campaign, the World Resources Institute, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Nelson Mandela Institution among others.
